PUBLIC NOTICE Public Tour at Coopers Rock State Forest Scheduled for July 25
The West Virginia Division of Forestry will be conducting a public tour at Coopers Rock State Forest on Saturday, July 25, 2009. This tour will be to inform the public of plans for a project prescribed to help regenerate a variety of tree species, provide more diverse wildlife habitat and forest growth potential. The tour of the area in the south-central section of the forest will take place at 10 AM. We will meet at the Day Use Parking Lot at Coopers Rock State Forest. Bring substantial footwear, clothing appropriate for briars and the weather, snacks and water. The tour will involve a one- to two-mile hike on trails, old roads and uneven ground in the woods. ABOUT COOPERS ROCK STATE FOREST
At approximately 12,747 acres, Coopers Rock State Forest is the largest in the West Virginia State Forest system. Located 13 miles east of Morgantown and 8 miles west of Bruceton Mills, Coopers Rock is easily accessed by Exit 15 of Interstate 68. The spectacular scenic view from the Coopers Rock Overlook and the numerous hiking and biking trails make this State Forest one of the most visited areas in West Virginia.

Conduct two Border Cut harvests to provide early successional habitat adjacent to low herbaceous habitat for wildlife
Conduct public meeting of draft recreation plan for forest. Begin to implement the scheduled projects.
Prepare prescription for oak retention and regeneration in the Scott Run area and submit to public for review
